How to get from Yerevan to Tatev and the Wings of Tatev ropeway
Tatev Monastery is about 250 km south-east of Yerevan — 4 to 4.5 hours each way on the M2 through the mountains, so a day trip takes about 13 hours. Most visitors ride the Wings of Tatev ropeway (5.7 km) from Halidzor and the car meets them at the top. There is no bus that makes a same-day return practical. A private car for the day costs $280 for a sedan, $380 for a minivan, per car, with stops at Khor Virap and Noravank on request. Prices checked .

How long is the drive from Yerevan to Tatev?
About 4–4.5 hours each way via Ararat valley, the Vayots Dzor passes and Goris. With the ropeway, the monastery and two stops on the way the day is 12–13 hours — start at 7–8 am.
When does the Wings of Tatev ropeway run?
The ropeway runs all year; according to Wikipedia it opens at 10 am and closes at 6 pm from October to April (later in summer), and is closed on Mondays outside high summer. Wind can stop it. Check the official TaTever site on the day before you go — we plan the route around it.[1][2]

Can I combine Tatev with Khor Virap and Noravank?
Yes, they lie on the same road south. With a 7 am start a typical day is Khor Virap → Noravank → Tatev (ropeway) → back to Yerevan around 8–9 pm. Noravank is a 13th-century monastery in the Amaghu gorge.[4]
Is the road safe in winter?
The M2 crosses passes above 2,000 m; in snow it is slower and the driver uses winter tyres. In bad weather we suggest two days with a night in Goris instead of one long day.
