Bavra or Bagratashen — which crossing should I use?
Bagratashen is the direct way to Tbilisi. Bavra is shorter for south-west Georgia: Akhalkalaki, Vardzia, Akhaltsikhe, Borjomi and on to Kutaisi or Batumi without going through Tbilisi.
Which crossing for your destination?
| Going to… | Crossing | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Tbilisi, Kakheti, Kazbegi | Bagratashen–Sadakhlo | Direct road, 24 h |
| Vardzia, Akhaltsikhe, Borjomi | Bavra–Ninotsminda | No Tbilisi detour |
| Kutaisi or Batumi | Bavra (via Akhaltsikhe) or Bagratashen (via Tbilisi) | Depends on stops and season |
What is the road like in winter?
The Ashotsk and Javakheti plateaus are among the coldest places in the region and lie around 2,000 m. Snow is possible from November to April; cars run on winter tyres and the driver may move the start to daylight after heavy snow.
Does the driver cross the border with us?
Yes — one car to your address in Georgia. Passengers pass passport control themselves; the car’s Georgian insurance is included in the price.[2]
Which documents do I need?
A passport accepted for entry to Georgia. Check the rules for your nationality on the Georgian Foreign Ministry’s consular site before you travel.[3]
